Each of us strives to maintain a young appearance as long as possible. Genetics, lifestyle and environmental conditions in which we live, as well as the care of our skin, play a great role in the skin aging process. Below we will present you some important steps that are worth taking in anti-aging prevention and when the first signs of aging are already appearing.
Adequate skin hydration is essential for all skin types and ages. Dehydrated skin is weaker, more susceptible to harmful external factors, and this definitely affects the rate at which it ages. Properly moisturized skin functions better, it is more elastic, durable, and shallow wrinkles become less visible.
It is important to choose creams according to the changing needs of the skin and prevailing climatic conditions, for the summer lighter creams with a more watery, gel consistency would be suitable, for the autumn and winter period, more concentrated creams. Also mature skin, due to the weakened hydrolipid (protective) barrier of the epidermis, needs more nutritious creams with the addition of oils, ceramides, which allow to retain moisture in the epidermis for longer.
If the cream does not hydrate the skin, it is good to include moisturizing serums (containing, for example, hyaluronic acid) in the care, which additionally increase the level of hydration.
Also remember to drink eat least 1,5 l of water every day.
The sun, despite life-giving and health benefits, is harmful to our skin. The process of changes taking place in the skin under the influence of solar radiation is called photo-aging. During this process, radiation (in particular UVA) penetrates deep into the skin causing damage to collagen and elastin fibers, blood vessels, tissues and the skin’s protective barrier. The result is discoloration, wrinkles, and thickened skin.
It is worth remembering that, UV radiation, although invisible, reaches us also in winter and cloudy days. Creams with sunscreen should therefore be used every day throughout the year.
The amount of free radicals that occur in our body naturally increases under the influence of stress, inadequate diet, UV radiation and harmful weather conditions. Too many of them lead to violation of cell structures, disorders of their functioning and irregularitie in collagen synthesis. Antioxidants prevent the formation of free radicals and their harmful effects, they also have anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic and strengthening properties on blood vessels.
That is why it is so important to eat foods rich in them and to use cosmetics with their contents. Antioxidants include vitamins A, C, E, coenzyme Q10, as well as substances contained in many plant extracts and oils. Antioxidant products should be included in your care not only to delay the aging process, but also when our skin is devoid of radiance and has an uneven color.
Peptides are short-chain proteins made of amino acids, and their action varies depending on their type.
It is worth introducing peptides into care when we notice the first signs of aging on our skin, but also when our skin needs stronger hydration and restores its elasticity. Unlike other active substances (such as retinol or acids), peptides have very low irritating potential, so they are mild and also great for sensitive and vascular skin care.
Retinoids and retinol, i.e. derivatives of vitamin A, are one of the best and most effective substances in the care of mature skin. Due to their fat dissolution properties, they penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and affect the dermis. Vitamin A accelerates the cell renewal cycle, which leads to improved skin quality. The skin becomes more elastic, its color is even, and the visibility of discoloration decreases. In addition, retinoids and retinol slow down collagen breakdown, so that the aging process also slows down.
Skin care under the eyes
The skin under the eyes is the area on our face where the skin is usually more delicate and thinner than in other parts of it. Most often it is in this area that the first signs of aging are visible and it causes us the most problems over time. The most important thing in skin care around the eyes is its proper hydration, which will make the skin elastic and more durable. For mature skin, it is worth choosing creams or serum with a rich formula with active substances, especially in the evening care. Additionaly, cosmetics with the addition of neuropeptides will help reduce small wrinkles that have already appeared in this area.
